To be eligible for a clinical externship, students must successfully complete the program, submit to a background check/live scan, drug screening and meet other requirements (covid screen, flu vaccine)
 
Students must pass a basic Reading/Math assessment except for the Certified Nurse Assistant course. All students must provide a copy of their High School Diploma or GED/HiSET prior to registering. Certificates of Completion will be handed on Graduation Day May 25, 2023. Letter of Completion available upon request.
Certified Nurse Assistant I Program

Certified Nurse Assistant I Program

Students will learn the skills needed to provide care to residents who live in long term care facilities including body mechanics, infection control, patient rights, vital signs, personal care and more. Students will participate in direct patient care at a local long term care facility. Enrollment is limited to 15 students and early registration is encouraged.

All CNA students are required to co-enroll in one of the medical terminology classes (exception: proof of prior completion of medical terminology or anatomy/physiology) Students must purchase their materials and textbooks by the first day of class.

                             Administrative Medical Assistant

This 50-hour course prepares students to function effectively in many of the administrative and clerical positions in the health care industry. Medical Administrative Assistants, Medical Secretary, and Medical Records Clerks are all positions in great demand. This program covers important background information on the medical assisting profession and interpersonal skills, medical ethics and law, medical terminology, basics of insurance billing and coding, telephone techniques, scheduling appoinments, medical records management and management of practice finances. This program is intended to provide students with a well-rounded introduction to medical administration so that a student can gain the necessary skills required to obtain an Medical Administrative Assistant position in the health care field.

National Certification: This program meets the necessary requirements to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) Exam

This course is open to all students. All CNA and CMA students are required to enroll in
one of the medical terminology classes
. Medical Terminology is a foundational course
that is essential to student success in all allied health programs. Students will learn about
body systems, diseases, word pronunciation and the language of medicine. Students who
are planning to enroll in a health career program in the future are encouraged to attend.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be provided with a certificate of
completion.

Students are required to purchase and use an online textbook.

Personal care assistants help people who are living with a physical or mental disability and
who live at home. Students will learn how to help clients with bathing, dressing, grooming,
eating and moving around the home. In addition, students will learn how to provide emotional
support and accompany clients to medical appointments. Upon completion of this course
students will be eligible for a certificate of completion. NOTE: The two classes listed below
are separate.

This program is intended for students who want to prepare for an exciting, challenging, and rewarding career in healthcare. This class will prepare students to pass the National Healthcareer Association Clinical Medical Assistant exam. Students will learn how to perform back office medical assistant clinical duties including preparation of patients for examination, infection control, giving injections, and operating electrocardiographs (EKG). Instruction includes among other things preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy, and the cardiac life cycle.  Students will review important topics including phlebotomy, pharmacology, the proper use and administration of medications, taking and documenting vital signs, cardiology including proper lead placements, professional workplace behavior, ethics, and the legal aspects of healthcare. 

This program includes 140 hours of classroom lecture and hands-on lab.
 
Students must purchase their own textbooks, stethoscope and blood pressure cuff and national exam.
NHA National Certification:
 This program meets the necessary requirements to take the National Health career Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) Exam.

All CMA students are required to co-enroll in the medical terminology class.

New! Advanced Certified Nurse assistant Program

This course is designed for students who have already passed the California CNA exam. This class will introduce students to the use of the EKG machine and how to run a 12- lead EKG. The class will cover blood collection that an advanced CNA can perform under supervision of a licensed healthcare provider’s supervision. Students will be introduced to skills that will prepare them to work in a hospital, including caring for obstetric and pediatric patients. Finally, students will review anatomy and physiology and quality assurance.

Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Exam 

Students who have completed a clinical medical assistant training program are eligible to take the National Healthcareer (NHA) exam. The Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam provides validation to employers that students have the most relevant knowledge and skills needed to provide comprehensive care to patients. Students who pass this exam, which is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies, can prove to employers that they are dedicated to excellence as a clinical medical assistant.

Dental Assisting Program W/ Clinical externship

Dental Assisting Program W/ Clinical externship

The 60 hour Dental Assisting Program prepares students for entry level positions in one of the fastest growing health care positions - Dental Assisting. The purpose of this course is to familiarize the student with all areas of pre-clinical dental assisting and provide training in the professional skills required to function as an assistant in the dental practice. This course covers the following key areas and topic - Administrative Aspects include: the history of dentistry and dental assisting; introduction to the dental office; the legal aspects of dentistry; policies and guidelines. Clinical Aspects include: introduction to oral anatomy; dental operatory; dental equipment, introduction to the tooth structure; primary and permanent teeth; the oral cavity and related structures; proper patient positioning; dental hand-pieces; sterilization; and other areas. In addition to entry-level administrative jobs, this course is ideal for students interested in pursuing a future formal Dental Hygienist program.
 
National Certification: This program meets the necessary requirements to take the Dental
Assisting National Board (DANB) Radiology Health and Safey (RHS) Examination.

Clinical Externship: As part of this Dental Assisting program, you will be eligible to participate
in a 40 hour clinical externship.

Pharmacy Technician:

Pharmacy Technician:

This comprehensive program will prepare students to work as a pharmacy technician in a retail or other pharmacy setting and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Course content includes: pharmacy medical terminology, the history of pharmacy, the pharmacy practice in multiple environments, pharmacy calculations and measurements, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Through classroom lecture and hands on labs, students will review dosage calculations, drug classifications, “the top 200 drugs”, I.V. flow rates, sterile compounding, dose conversions, aseptic technique, the handling of sterile products, total parental nutrition (TPN), dispersing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement.(Textbooks included)
 
Note: In addition to classroom lecture and labs, this program includes a clinical externship through a local pharmacy. To be eligible for a clinical externship, students must successfully complete the 50 hour program, submit to a thorough background check, drug screening and meet other requirements.

 The Califronia Department of Public Health (CDPH) has apporved D&S Diversified Technologies - Headmaster to provide tests and scoring services for the nurse aide testing at the Green Valley Center in Watsonville. Students who have completed a CDPH CNA approved nurse aide training program are eligible to complete the knowledge and/or the skills test.
