The front office staff will administer these entrance exams before the course starts. Certified Nurse Assistant  Program (cna)

Students will learn the theory and skills needed to pass the California Department of Public Health CNA exam. Topics include body mechanics, infection control, patient rights, vital signs, and personal care. Students will participate in direct patient care at a long-term care facility. Theory must be completed before clinical instruction. Enrollment is limited to 8 students. All CNA students must complete a medical terminology class.
 
Additional Requirements:
All CNA students are required to co-enroll in one of the medical terminology classes (exception: proof of prior completion of medical terminology or anatomy/physiology) Students must purchase their materials and textbooks by the first day of class.

This program will train students to assist healthcare professionals by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Clinical instruction includes infection control, preparing patients for examination and treatment, point of care testing, phlebotomy, and EKG. Administrative instruction includes patient education and an introduction to medical law and ethics. Students will participate in laboratory exercises to enhance their ability to perform in a medical office. Pre requisite: Medical Terminology - You can also coenroll in our Medical Terminology class if you have not completed a Medical Terminology course prior.
Note:This course qualifies students to take the National Health Career Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Exam.

Personal care assistants help people who are living with a physical or mental disability and who live at home. Students will learn how to help clients with bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, and moving around the home. In addition, students will learn how to provide emotional support and accompany clients to medical appointments. Upon completion of this course, students will be eligible for a certificate of completion.

Administrative MEDICAL Assistant Program

This course is designed to prepare students for administrative and clerical roles within the healthcare industry. It provides a comprehensive overview of the responsibilities of a front office medical assistant, including professional communication, medical ethics, legal regulations, and compliance standards. Students will also learn the fundamentals of insurance billing and coding, appointment scheduling, telephone etiquette, and managing medical records. Additional topics include practice finance management and an introduction to Electronic Medical Records (EMR) through hands-on simulation. The course also includes an overview of basic medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and the major body systems. Ideal for those seeking to enter the healthcare field in a non-clinical capacity, this course builds the essential skills needed for success in today’s medical offices.

Dental Assisting Program W/ Clinical externship

This course aims to familiarize students with pre-clinical dental assisting and provide training in the skills required to function as an assistant in the dental practice. This course covers the following key areas and topics: the history of dentistry and dental assisting, introduction to the dental office, the legal aspects of dentistry, policies and guidelines, introduction to oral anatomy, dental operatory, dental equipment, introduction to the tooth structure, primary and permanent teeth, the oral cavity and related structures, proper patient positioning, dental hand-pieces, sterilization, and other areas. This course is ideal for students pursuing a future Dental Hygienist program. National Certification: This program meets the requirements for taking the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) Radiology Health and Safety (RHS) Examination.

EKG Technician Certification Program

This course prepares students to function as EKG Technicians and to take the National Health Career CET Exam. It will include the anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, electrocardiography, and stress testing. Additionally, students will practice with EKG equipment and perform hands-on labs, including an introduction to the function and proper use of the EKG machine, the normal anatomy of the chest wall for proper lead placement, 12-lead placement, and other clinical practices.

Pharmacy Technician Program with  Clinical Externship

Pharmacy Technician Program with  Clinical Externship

This program will prepare students to work as pharmacy technicians in retail or other pharmacies and take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCBexam. Course content includes pharmacy medical terminology, the history of pharmacy, the pharmacy practice in multiple environments, pharmacy calculations and measurements, reading and interpreting prescriptions, and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Through classroom lectures and hands-on labs, students will review dosage calculations, drug classifications, the “top 200 drugs”, I.V. flow rates, sterile\ compounding, dose conversions, aseptic technique, the handling of sterile products, total parenteral
nutrition (TPN), dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement.

Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Exam 

Students who have completed a clinical medical assistant training program are eligible to take the National Healthcareer (NHA) exam. The Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam provides validation to employers that students have the most relevant knowledge and skills needed to provide comprehensive care to patients. Students who pass this exam, which is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies, can prove to employers that they are dedicated to excellence as a clinical medical assistant.

 The Califronia Department of Public Health (CDPH) has apporved D&S Diversified Technologies - Headmaster to provide tests and scoring services for the nurse aide testing at the Green Valley Center in Watsonville. Students who have completed a CDPH CNA approved nurse aide training program are eligible to complete the knowledge and/or the skills test.
